Dahm-So Magazine Spread

Dahm-So (담소), meaning “Small Talk” in Korean is a school magazine published by the Korean Students Association at School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Each designer is paired with an on-team editor to create beautiful magazine spreads that speaks visually to each column.

Korean War

This article is about the relationship between North & South Korea. It covers what led up to the Korean War, and what lies ahead. Being a more serious piece, the design of the spread should look historical yet neutral, as well as showing aspects and visuals of Korea.

Nam June Paik Art Center

This spread was designed on the article of Paik Nam June, a Korean-American media artist who is considered a pioneer of video art. The visual layouts reflect the raw-ness of this artist’s work with a twist of modern interpretation.

The overall dark backgrounds of the magazine spreads reflect the physical gallery space, which is not a conventional white wall gallery. Given Paik Nam June’s pieces were video and media art, the gallery space naturally was a darker setting.
